you look lovely today... just today?

Just when you think that your prayers are getting answered and your cries for heat and spring warmth have been heard the weather takes a turn for the worse and suddenly you have to dig out your jeans, your boots, your trench coats... hell, even your umbrellas! I've said it once, and i'll say it again, Australian weather is some of the most incomprehensible on the planet. At least in England you know to expect rain all year round, in Sydney it can happen whenever, wherever, and when you least expect it. 4 seasons in a day, they say. Well, they're not wrong. My outfit today is one of warmth and comfort in a tafetta trench that protects from the rain and is adorably chic with little bows at the shoulder and wrists (stella mccartney for target). Let's see what others have been wearing this week...

I really, really love a nude dress. Especially a one-shouldered, fitted, cleverly draped one like this number.  You know what else i love? glam necklaces with ultra shine and great gems. I also love strappy sandal heels with metallic embellishments. And i just love the way that when Gwyneth gets dressed up, she really really gets dressed up. So cool, so chic, so yummy mummy. Her skin is glowing, her hair is such a lovely shade of yellow, her smile is so bright. Very glamorous!

Sometimes it's all about the glamour, the dress and the hair and the jewellery and the shoes... But sometimes it's just about life. And the clothes are second. Yeah, it's a lovely white shirt that fits her perfectly and rolled up to the elbows. Yeah, those shorts are really simple and cute, especially paired with her long legs. And what says 'i really don't care about fashion' more than havaina thongs? She looks happy and carefree and summery, and I hope that when I dress casually for the heat I look half so nonchalant. Effortless style is thrown around a lot these days, and this could be boring, but it's something about the hair and the sunglasses and the smile... hmm.... what happened to summer, anyway?

Alexa takes what Amanda has and goes in the other direction, not towards classic chic but a firm foot into hipsterville. Not normally my thing, Alexa manages to make hipster look effortless, which is no mean feat. The chambray shirt, half tucked in half out, the leather skirt (or shorts??), the ballet flats, the blingin' necklace. I love how the leather adds a layer of cool to the outfit that a plain pencil skirt wouldn't have done. The ballet flats and the necklace seem anomalies, too chic and classic for this outfit of leather and denim. That's the thing about Alexa. Yeah, she's a little too cool for school. But she's oh so charming while she does it, so you sort of forget about all the other stuff. And just as well that you do, because look at this outfit! it's styling genius! Now,  if only i had a pair of legs like Alexa's... ??

I like to think i am a pretty reasonable person. For example, view this picture. Here is Shia LaBoeuf, otherwise known as my future husband. So far so good. Here he is with another woman, who just happens to be the adorable carey mullgian, tipped to be the next keira knightley. So far not so good. She stole my man! However, since i am a reasonable person, I'm letting all my bias to the side to say that i really like her dress. And her pixie crop. And i wish i could pull off a shapeless pleated sack underneath a shapeless cashmere jumper with mussy boy hair. I really do. She looks french! And devil maycare! And chic! And sexy... *sigh*... goodbye shia....

ahhh young love. what do they say about it? it never seems to last. No sooner had i ooohed and aahed over what an adorable couple Lily Donaldson and Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld (ahem, Carine's son) made, I learn that after a few years of height (both exceed 6ft) and bliss they have parted ways. Poor Lily, I wonder if she'll be in Vogue Paris half as much now? (All jokes aside i do feel for her, but she's pretty, tall and thin, i bet she'll be taking up with some british rock star any day now!)

The blow was sweetened a little by the news that Vladimir has taken up with someone else equally as fabulous - Vogue L'uomo's Giovanna Battaglia. Pictured together in Venice on a holiday they seem inseparable, can't get enough of each other. Clearly still in the honeymoon period where everything the other person does is wonderful. Where you can do no wrong. Where you doodle his name on every scrap of paper within his reach. Where you're not quite sure where this is going, but it feels so good!

I hate it when people talk about things they know nothing about, but when it comes to celebrities, or at least those in the public sphere, we all think we're experts. Without knowing either party and without wishing to pass judgement (and yet, here i go), i think that giovanna and vladimir make a better couple, no? Something about the european sensibility and culture, the dark hair, the knowing gazes. I suppose you can tell a woman by her shoes, and judging by Giovanna's this woman means business.
