There's nothing like love at first sight. The double take as you walk past - you're stopped in you're tracks. Beautiful. Striking. Impossibly tall. Dark. Strong. You walk closer, entranced. You reach out a hand. You need to touch, to feel... This is pretty much how my day last Saturday went - just walking calmly along a street towards a movie theatre to see Wes Anderson's glorious Fantastic Mr Fox and then... hit like a tonne of bricks. There in the window of a shop was the most incredible pair of shoes. They may not be the opening ceremony buckle wedges, but they're a pretty damn good copy (and at $60 a pretty sweet price point too). I rushed in, there was one pair in my size, i tried them on, they were fabulous, and i bought them. Just like that.
Phew, that felt good.
Monday
yves saint laurent coat, helmut lang top, benjamin eyewear glasses, michael kors belt, chloe paraty bag, yves saint laurent ring, dries van noten skirt, surface to air buckle wedges.
Everyone should wear wedges on a monday. You can strut along with a spring in your step without having to worry about getting stiletto heels caught in troublesome cobblestones or tricky little hidden grates. You can even run with relative grace, if needs be. You can confront everything in wedges - commissions, interviews with people who just will not talk, hangovers - and do it all in style. Bright colour is your thing du jour, and so off you stride to work in the most divine burnt orange coat, set off by the drapes of a cowl neck top and the gradiating stripes of a dries van noten skirt. Striking, yet remarkably comfortable. Just like the shoes.
Tuesday
forever 21 beanie, vivienne westwood coat dress, lanvin necklace, proenza schouler PS1 bag, surface to air buckle wedges.
You feel cold. There's a definite draught, you can feel it on your legs. Oh that's right. You're not wearing tights. Well, they don't exactly go with this outfit. Your wrap dress in a gorgeous alpaca wool is warm enough, that's true, but your bare legs (tanned, thanks to a weekend sojourn in jamaica) are fully exposed to the elements. That's potentially problematic, although i suppose you're only staying in the office today, typing up stories and rifling through the racks of the fashion closet. And hey, it's a sacrifice you're willing to make if it means you can wear these glorious buckle wedges, rough and tough as well as achingly cool. You've already had one jealous glance this morning from the teenage daughter of your neighbour (which made you feel old...) and you feel good. The best $700 dollars you've ever spent!
Wednesday
joseph coat, jane birkin sweater, beanie, below-belt belt, mawi necklace, dorothy perkins socks, benjamin eyewear glasses, dries van noten skirt, surface to air buckle wedges.
You can't help yourself sometimes. Even though you're decked out in the warmest coat known to man (shearling lined leather, mmmm) over a charcoal knit and cable socks, even though the weather outside is positively dreary, even though you're planning on having shepherds pie for dinner which you only ever have if you think it's going to snow (which it probably will, the way the sky is looking) - you have to brighten up your day. You do so by adding a touch of something bright and colourful, like this sunshine yellow belt and matching beanie. Rugged up, warm and snug, but still glowing. Hopefully the yellow doesn't clash with your red nose!
Thursday
rag and bone coat, alexander wang sweater, hermes birkin bag, marni skirt, mawi ring, lanvin necklace, chloe sunglasses, surface to air buckle wedges.
at last! hurrah! you're a lady who lunches! today you're heading off to lunch with a glorious new york society doyenne whose art and fashion collection is going under the hammer, the process of which you are documenting for the magazine. She suggested you meet for lunch and you, eager to have a glimpse into this rarefied world of lunching and planning, accepted. You dress carefully, your birkin (a legacy from a particularly stylish great-aunt) as well as a ballerina length pleated skirt and drapey collared coat ought to please the lunch set at Claridges. But then, you being you, you mix it up a little with the alexander wang bobbly sweater, too much fun to turn down, a lanvin necklace with snake pendants and buckled wedge sandals so tough you feel almost as hardcore as alice dellal. And that's saying something.
Friday
3.1 phillip lim jacket, roksanda ilincic dress, lucky brand chandelier earrings, reiss evening bag, surface to air buckle wedges
There's nothing like a party to liven up your friday. Not only is it the last day in the office (hurrah of hurrahs!) but you also get to, metaphorically speaking, let down your hair and boogie on down as soon as night falls. The party is a great one - the opening of a chic new boutique owned by a great mate of yours whose taste is unrivalled - where the champagne is sure to be flowing and the music sure to be beyond compare - her boyfriend is the DJ du jour. Without thinking you throw on a gorgeous cocktail dress in plum purple and black with the most delightful side frill, topped with a sequinned cardigan and a fabulous pair of chandelier earrings. You hesitate with the shoes, however. Nothing too glamorous - your top half has that covered already. You settle on the buckle wedges, a staple of yours by now, since not only does it balance out your girly side they are so damn comfortable you can dance the night away. And you certainly plan to.
TGIF!
