the best of both worlds

minimalism is all good and well, especially when you have a hangover, but sometimes you need a little bit of crazy in your life. Celine captures that cleanliness of utility that makes me think - bizarrely - of starched shirts and stiff collars, but in a way that is a little bit undone, think raw seams and rough edges. Proenza Schouler takes all that and adds into the mix a healthy dash of Indian dip-dying methods, loud patterns and short, short, short shorts. I feel like mixing the two is my favourite kind of dressing. That Taylor Tomasi perfect balance where you can have some crazy-ass drop crotch harem pants with a saville row tailored jacket and a hermes birkin. They are two very different styles, two very different resorts. Phoebe Philo's Celine girl's resort of choice would undoubtedly be one of the French Riviera ports, or the Amalfi coast at a stretch. Lounging around with the Hotel du Cap's club sandwich in hand, wearing crease-front palazzo pants and a crisp linen blazer as a cape. The Proenza Schouler girl parties hard in Ibiza with sand-dusted shoulders and a neon green bag. Wouldn't it be incredible to combine the two? To have Proenza's green and red knit over tan celine trousers and a trench coat? To pair Celine's simple white shirt dress over a spotted mesh bodysuit and under an embellished swing front blazer? This is why we have magazines - and market editors, who trawl the fashion weeks in clothes fresh from their mag's closet - to put all these opposing ideas and labels and thoughts together. What i hate most is when fashion editors style shoots where each look is from a single designer. The mix, the reaching the best of both worlds, is often far more exciting.
