Amy Kaehne tote bag and beautiful new roses // The S/S 2012-2013 look book: A stranger in a strange land // Muesli and bananas, always, always // New grown products in pastel coloured tubes, as it should be // A perfect lunch with Amy at Kitchen by Mike
A New Mexico Turkish delight sunset, all fairy-floss and lightness and air. A pale morning in spring, wearing gelato-hued knits and a delicately draped skirt. The simplicity of being young: of dresses and flat sandals and little else.
- words by me in the Amy Kaehne S/S 2012-2013 lookbook
I was so honoured to write a little press release to accompany the look book for Amy Kaehne's latest Spring/Summer collection. It's a beautiful riff on summer and youthfulness and heat and bare legs: little mint green cotton knits with fluttering mini skirts and lace trousers that Cecile might have worn with a boxy tunic or a breton top. I am such a fan of Amy Kaehne's comfortable and relaxed aesthetic that is totally her own. Every piece of hers that I own has worn like a dream: a wrap coat that is so perfect I'm never going to stop wearing it, loose handknits that manage to be both breezy in summer and warm in winter, and colourful shirts with smile-inducing prints. Amy's work is like those perfect days - on the weekend or in the holidays or even those random little moments where you have a free weekday and everything seems right - the ones you always hold in your mind. I had one such day with Amy not too long ago, it started with muesli and juice, then I met her for lunch at Kitchen by Mike, where we cooled down with lemon and barley water and apple coleslaws. We wandered through Koskela, dreamed of house filled with low couches, cashmere throws and neon light art installations, and forgot all about real world problems for a few hours. That's what wearing Amy Kaehne feels like. Those best, best days when you're so happy, and so content, that nothing seems important and nothing seems to bother you, and you're drinking juice by the barrel, and, even if it's raining, it feels like the sun will never stop shining.
