ZOMGZOMGZOMGZOMG
i know i'm very behind the times, but zomgzomgzomgzomg.
WHEN CAN I GET MY HANDS ON VOGUE UK DECEMBER 08!!!!???

[tfs... it's a fricking fold out cover! FOLD OUT COVER! i'm hyperventilating right now]

besides the usual issues with vogue uk, like the fact that kate was on the october 2008 cover (just 1 issue ago!) and that she is just alexandra shulman's meal ticket nowadays, this is one of kate's better vogue uk covers. It doesn't hurt that it was shot by nick knight, or that she is in dior couture, which never made a girl look bad, or that the art direction is superb (hello new font and gold colours!)

maybe i like this so much because of the content. the whole issues is the 'imagination' issue, all about fantasy, dreams, and there is an ed shot by TIM WALKER! i can't even breathe or type properly right now, all i can think about is getting my little hands on this issue and molesting every page. There is re-telling of fairytales by vogue's 'favourite' young british writers, different designer's takes on the whimsical accoutrement of THE FAN!!! i am dying to see what christopher kane's fan looks like (and isnt the fan just the coolest accessory?) and famous party-goers talk about their dream dinner party.

All the stories are cute and sound interesting, the eds have so much potential, especially the tim walker/karen elson one, and i am excited to see 'unbelievable fashion' with lily donaldson and jourdan dunn. From the previews i've seen the clothes are gorgeous couture, lots of tulle and crazy shapes (hello margiela..)

I know i am biased towards vogue uk, as it is the first vogue i bought properly (it had keira knightley on the cover whom i was in love with at the time), but i do have my issues with it, as outlined in (much) earlier posts. I know you all think i'm a great writer, but i can't even string full sentences together now, i am sick with excitement, absolutely dizzy with it. I can't even... i need this now! imagination, fashion, dreams, stories..... it's like shulman went inside my head and fished out the perfect vogue issue.

I'm going to try and end this post with at least the semblance of intelligence, despite the fact all i want to do is yell ZOMGZOMGZOMG at the top of my lungs. the fantastic, imaginative, dream-like quality of fashion is the reason why i fell in love with it in the first place. My first real fashion moment was with the christian lacroix couture dress i used in the wedding dress post, its tulley folds and whimsical puffs tugging at my imagination and leading my down this lovely path bedecked with beautiful clothes and the even more beautiful dreams that they created.  Fashion is Fantasy, whether it be the luxury and extravagance of feathered couture that makes you look, but more importantly feel like a fairy princess, or the harsh elements of a leather jacket that clothes you in the folds of toughness and strength.

That was kind of what i was getting at with my last post... fashion is transformative. And how coincidental that just as i am going to post today i find this cover that exemplifies everything i was trying to say in my last post. I have never had the opportunity to try on couture, i daresay not many have, but merely by seeing this gorgeous, gorgeous dress on the cover i have this huge smile on my face that won't wear off, even though i have an exam today. I fell in love with fashion because of the fantasy it invited me to partake in. And when a magazine like vogue devotes an entire issue to the fantasy that surrounds fashion my faith in the whole concept of fashion is restored again.

For a girl who spends all her time dreaming of other things, the beautiful, the lovely, the fantastic, fashion is my poison. Much like books, at its best fashion can create a whole other world, and not just where people are outfitted in couture, velvet, lace and all things lovely, the world can be the dirty streets of paris on which models stomp down in leather pants and fur coats.

Fashion is magical. And right now i feel its spell cast upon me all over again.
