Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight.
Walking in a winter wonderland.
Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
In the meadow we can build a snowman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say: Are you married?
We'll say: No man,
But you can do the job
When you're in town.
Later on, we'll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we've made,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
In the meadow we can build a snowman,
And pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
Until the other kids knock him down.
When it snows, ain't it thrilling,
Though your nose gets a chilling
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
Felix Bernard, Winter Wonderland.
Despite being told countless, countless times that snow is not as pretty or lovely as i think it is, and it is often a brown/grey sludgy mess, i am fascinated and captivated by the idea of snow. I've never seen it, and therefore it remains to me this beautiful mystery formed by movies, books, images, and of course my very active imagination, which means that snow for me is a very romantic, beautiful thing. And that's why i love this carol so much, because a winter wonderland for me, really is a wonderland. I really want a white christmas, the allure of a hot, sticky, sweaty one just isn't as poetic, and it wouldn't fit as well into a christmas carol.
all pics from flickr, the first 3 are found via ICON, a really lovely blog about fashion and all things cool.
Hope you are well, and for those of you lucky enough to live in colder climates that you are enjoying the cool and, possibly the snow. please feel for me in this sweltering, sticky heat.
