it was 41 degrees today... too hot to do anything much. although of course today was the day of the sydney uni 'information and open day' so of course i had to traipse around beautifully historic but painfully un-airconditioned buildings clutching brochures and my future while deciding what i want to do at uni (more on that later). By the time i reached home, tired, sticky and wishing i could be anywhere other than this country directly under the hole in the ozone layer the wind had kicked in, and there was the coolest of breeze rustling the leaves. Of course this was all once i was inside and too late for me to take advantage of such breeze. This is how the weather works in australia. 4 seasons in a day, they say. 3 seasons too many, says I.
here are some photos that sum up what i wish i could be doing: a lazy hazy summer running through fields of green and blurry purple, moving softly into the sandy beaches and shining water. Saturated colours, lazy movements, flowers blooming slowly, slowly. Everything in slow motion, really. Ice tea with mint and limes, cucumber sandwiches as light as air. It would be hot, of course, but not unbearably though, and a cool breeze would blow the lace curtains of my cottage about ever so slightly, beads of perspiration running down the glasses and the vase holding the daisies we had picked only that day....

p.s thank you to you all for replying to my last post... i have been so set in this 'advanced arts' course that i think i let myself lose sight of the fact that getting a degree and a career is more important than just doing what i love and hoping everything falls into place. Your advice was so thoughtful and helpful, especially those of you studying journalism in the past and present (and indeed, future)... it has been invaluable. I am not set in this media/communications degree, after attending the open day today i feel a lot more confident that i will not only enjoy it (which i ought to do if i possibly can!) and that it will be the degree that gives me a career and a leg up in my job area of choice. fingers crossed that it all works out, otherwise, find me in your local burger joint. :)
Thankyou all for taking the time to write your advice, thoughts, comments and be generally helpful and insightful. i was so delighted to see that so many of you had opinions and thoughts to share, and i took them all into account and to mind when i went to the uni today, armed with questions for the people manning the 'media communications' tent. i will definitely be making sure that i follow all of your advice.
thanks again, you have all been so lovely! i will definitely keep you posted, preliminary round offers are released tomorrow, so who knows, you may have a uni student on your hand come tomorrow morning.
