God i love Cannes. You must think i say this about every event that requires more than a pair of distressed jeans and shredded tee shirt (from both the girls and the guys). And, well, i actually do. Why is this? Because i am a lover of glamour, unashamedly and completely. In fact, i don't just love it, i adore it. And so the pics from the Cannes Film Festival combine a few loves for me, french riviera culture, the glitz and glamour of a bygone era, and the beauty of the film industry. And not hollywood mind, i'm talking about interesting, fascinating, well-made, incredibly moving films (Samson and Delilah, the Australian film is showing there, and let me tell you i cried and cried and cried...) I wish fervently one day that i am that fabulous, perhaps fabulous future me will get an invite from her actor boyf, there for a film opening and some sun, and i can swan around in swathes of silk organza looking beautiful and sipping champagne at 10 in the morning. *sigh*

She's wearing a Louis Vuitton tee-shirt in the way that someone supremely stylish wears a louis vuitton tee-shirt, that is, not caring at all. I chose this photo not because it showcases the outfit particularly well (the rest was jeans and a blazer), but because i think she is such a perfect example of ageing well and gracefully. She is so beautiful and yet we can see her age, is that really a problem? i will never understand the trend for age-defying plastic surgery and make up, when looking your age can be graceful and stylish in and of itself. It says that you have stories to tell, and don't we all want that?
Tilda Swinton
Ah tilda swinton, that bastion of 'what is she wearing now?' gossip columns, that shining beacon of hope held aloft for avant garde designers everywhere, that completely, impossible graceful of actresses, that true brand of performer... Whatever she is wearing, whatever she is performing, whatever she is doing she is sure to elicit reactions across the globe.
I for one find her fascinating in the way one finds aliens or gemma ward fascinating. She has this ethereal, odd beauty, it seems different and separate from normal prettiness somehow. She is striking with that pale pale hair and waxy skin and piercing green eyes. I like her with this blonde crop too, it is more eye-catching than the red, even if they may seem impossible, i think the fact that the blonde kind of melds into her overall skin colour is intriguing.
But enough ranting about her, lets talk about the clothes. This is Haider Ackerman Fall/Winter 09, and though i love the cut and the style i preferred it in the charcoal black that it was on the runway. Still, she is bold, and went for bold burgundy, and she certainly looks regal and powerful and everything, as always.
Ben Whishaw, Jane Campion and Abbey Cornish
Abbey looks nice, yep, i think jane's wearing a rick owens jacket, great... i'm more concerned with ben whishaw! oh dear god, he is that perfect successor to johnny depp's rumpled goodness. ahhhhh... look at his face! his ruffled hair, his man cardigan. he's so tall! he's so thin and lithe! ah i love him. *sigh*

i just love this colour on her, it's poetic and fairy-tale with her doll features. I'm not too sure of her relevance, but she looked a lot better than some of the people there in the first couple of days, rocking this one-shouldered dress with beautiful draping. The silk organza layers were just gorgeous, and the variations in the colouring of the lilac layers meant that the dress seemed to shimmer, it was alive. Ahhhhhh .... perfect.
