Say what you will about the Wangster, and i too have weighed in on the issue a few times, i think it's clear that he's got more than just his finger on the pulse. While i used to dismiss him for capturing the zeitgeist, and not much more, i can readily admit that i was mistaken about him. This collection shows a real evolution of design and a playfulness that is very interesting to see. I really did think that he was just catering to our hipster whims what with his $200 tee shirt line and artfully distressed cut offs, but i really like what i see here. As always i think he does his best work with dresses and skirts, yes i think his tee-shirts are beautifully made and a dream to wear, but he is a master at draping, which i always seem to overlook in favour of the bevy of BYTs that parade around in them. I mean, look at the sparkly blue skirt and the heavy knitted and appliqued jumper. It's a perfect combination of materials, a perfect contrast in elaborate decoration and simplicity, a perfect study in proportion and fit.
The huge sleeves on the sweater seem cavernous and inviting and not a bad 80s re-hash, which is a good thing. That long grey jersey dress is stunning, absolutely stunning, and though you really need to be as tall and limby as Abbey-Lee it's still nice to look at and dream. The first outfit is also very interesting. The drape and cut of those pants is really well done. And i love the sleeve-lengths of those tee-shirts. Fresh and new, they're 90s without being grunge and boring. Seriously, Wang, my hat's off to you.
A collection for the hipsters, and for those who want beautiful clothes. How many times can you say that without being facetious?
