Shoppers of Sydney rejoice. This year, on September 9, we will get a chance to take part in that hallowed, extravagant shopping event hosted by Vogue - Fashion's Night Out. Reserved last year for the big cities, this year it has expanded across the globe to include over 15 cities hosting nights over September 9-10 of sartorial glory. Celebrities, models, designers and the Vogue team pair up with retailers to give shoppers an experience they'll never forget. I'll always smile at the way that Vogue UK reports the night. Last year they wrote things like "Roksanda Ilincic was sales assistant for the night, happily proclaiming her big sale of a $10 000 necklace at Browns", "Daisy Lowe shimmied her way through a Vogue UK photoshoot in the window of Chanel styled by Fashion Director Kate Phelan in sequinned hot pants and a vintage bowler", and "Mario Testino chatted with a gaggle of fashion students outside Armani, telling them to "remember me when you are famous editors, I'll need the work!"". It sounds like a night of jolly good fun, all in the name of charity, which is just what I need.
In Sydney we might not have the biggest of names involved, but we do our best, in our own way. Colette Dinnigan will be setting up shop in her concession in David Jones Elizabeth St, offering special fashion advice and a surprise gift for shoppers who spend over $600. Myer Sydney will host the famous Chanel manicure bar where shoppers can get a shot of Khaki Brun, Rose and Vert - colours created by Chanel Make Up Director Peter Phillips just for FNO - and purchase the exclusively FNO-only pots. Bally will play host to GQ editor Grant Pearce, who - along with cognac and canapes - will give a dose of testosterone to the proceedings. Vogue Fashion Editor Meg Gray will be in Armani styling a live window display. Claudia Shaw will host a live fashion shoot (just like in LDN last year!) in sub-zero temperatures at Chanel. Expect the infamous yeti suits and fur booties. At Aussie high st label CUE there will be a $500 voucher drawn every hour, with anyone who spends over $150 going into the drawer to win a $2500 shopping spree with Cue Head designer Prue Rainey and Meg Gray. Lover's Susien Chong will present their new collection at Incu (The Galleries Victoria). Celebrity ambassadors will be shop assistants for the night at Kiehls counters in Myer and David Jones. There'll be champers in Prada, canapes at Oroton and DJ sets at Myer's youth level 5. Rachael Ruddick, my favourite jewellery du jour, has created an exclusive FNO cuff available online and will be selling her beautiful jewellery in person at the Vogue Martin Place trunk sale. Tiffany & Co is playing host to a garden party with Camilla and Marc and Kirsty Clements.
My absolute favourite though - a special prize by Westfield Sydney, where the best dressed shopping will win a $10 000 (yes, you read that right, $10 000) gift voucher for the new Westfield Sydney. The store that will have, upon completion, such incredible retail outlets as Miu Miu, Zara and Gap. Phew. That's what I call a prize.
And there'll be food too! Adrian Zumbo creating macaron madness at the Mid City Style Centre from 5PM onwards and a Vogue chocolate sculpture in Martin Place. And, after macarons and chocolate what else does a girl need? Absolut cocktails at The Ivy which gets going at 9 pm till late. And the best thing? I'm not working at DJs! So I'll be shopping along with all of you. See you there!
