stella revisited

Looking at the new stella mccartney collection was quite a heartening thing for one simple reason: it had great similarities to her collection for target. It makes me excited to see the target collection - for colour, for tailoring, for design - and makes me a little comforted that perhaps, just perhaps, stella had a hand in the actual collection itself. You hear horror stories about high street collaborations where it was an intern who actually did the designing, but I feel that this is not the case with Stella. She seems to like to control things, all by herself, and i mean that in the best possible way. Not in an OCD manner, but in a confident, successful manner. And all while she's expecting her fourth child!

Stella's spring/summer collection represents her current state of mind. It's all about longer lengths and looser cuts - clothes that you can wear whilst pregnant, natch. There was a raft of denim options that seemed both retro 70s in the wash, but very modern in the cut, longer culotte shorts that had none of the soccer mum and all of the working lady, and longer, flowing skirts that either billowed around the model's ankles or, because of sexy thigh splits, revealed a flash of toned leg. One imagines that Stella's pregnancy is going to be very chic indeed! Those tailoring jackets with the contrast, shiny lapels would sit nicely against a pregnant belly in a loose smock top over a pair of leggings or jeans. I guess that, after 3 children, you get to know a thing or two about what to wear during maternity.

Was their anything for the non-pregnant among us? Of course. Stella's tailoring is impeccable, as always, and her sleek pantsuits with a high waist, almost Olivia Newton John in Grease-like, would work on anyone. There were also a couple of sleeveless jackets that, true to form, warmed my heart. I do love me a sleeveless jacket. Bang on trend there was a lot of white, and a lot of that Felicia, cornflower blue (mostly thanks to the denim) that she has been favouring since Resort. The last couple of looks were in torrid print - tropical fruit style - that did absolutely nothing for me. The beauty of having a blog is that when you review you can eliminate from post (and mind) those looks that you hated as if they didn't exist at all. The print was offensive to the eye and not even ironic, and combined with stella's looser, but still tailored cut the effect was a bit of a muu muu. You can find the entire collection on style.com and you can see for yourself, but for now, here are my favourites, stella revisited, and in her quiet, unassuming style, totally wonderful.
