you look lovely today... just today?

well this week i was inundated with pictures, i even had to respectfully cull some people from my initial 'you look lovely today' folder. Yes, it is a glorious day in the realm of celebrity dressing when TOO many people looked good during the week. Although granted one of the girls in this post is from last week, but somehow i missed her, and she needs to be included for sheer fabulousness of fashion.

Amanda Seyfried - Last week

I know this was from last week, but i had to include this. This is how Leighton Meester COULD have dressed at the Met Gala to pull it off. Amanda goes everywhere Leighton went but with some restraint, she has the spiderman-chic web shoes, the crazy print dress, the bold shoulders and embellished jewelry adornment... but she doesn't add the hideous paisley leggings that leighton did. I think both girls are gorgeous and real cute, but Amanda just nails this one for me. The dress is the perfect length, her skin looks positively radiant, her hair is PERFECT and she's so infectiously gorgeous. Mamma Mia indeed! (har har har)

Chloe Sevigny

I once read and interview with Chloe where she captured the essence of her style in three words: 'a lot of leg'. Chloe is an icon, undoubtedly, she's quirky and kooky and sometimes so wrong it's right, and say what you will about the girl, but she knows how to dress her shape. Shorts and mini's are her staples, here a pair of denim cut offs with a plain white tee taken away from the dangerous realm of 90s grunge with an absolutely stunning chloe blazer (seen this in person at DJs Elizabeth St and MY GOD it's beautiful. The scalloped edges are to die for) and a pair of hard black boots. A perfect casual ensemble taken to a party with mussed up hair and a clutch bag. It's really perfect, and though she is often copied no-one ever quite does it as well as her. And besides, what's wrong with showing a bit of leg. With legs like those why would you ever put them away?

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld

When i saw this picture in small form i was kind of excited because i thought i would be able to use both Julia and Caroline Seiber, another of my high fashion favourites. Unfortunately, as you will be able to see now, Caroline's dress is hideous. It's a really bad material to start with that creases easily and looks tacky, it is also extremely shapeless, and so even on the stick-thin Sieber looks like a sack and, quite frankly, makes her look pregnant. Julia, on the other hand... WOW. Her past couple of looks have been a bit uninspiring, they've been ill-fitting (the wang white dress anyone?) and wayyy too short, making the whole world her gynecologist. She's not that kind of girl! I'm glad she wore this out, this is the Julia i know and love, classic and chic, but not boring. The blazer with the satin lapels fits her perfectly, and the addition of the YSL super booties makes the whole thing seem a little bit hardcore, which i love a little more than a bit. And she's completely stunning, so that helps too.

Lily Allen

I know, i know, this look is nothing amazing, but i try and show not just red carpet in this section, and some celebs do candid really. For some of them this involves looking candid in red carpet looks (think chloe sevigny, alexa chung, sienna miller etc) but for lily this means looking candid in candid looks. Ripped jeans, a loose slogan tee shirt that's slightly one shouldered, tortoise shell round sunglasses, cute satin lanvin ballet flats (regretting not buying these now on sale at Harvey Nichols) and that amazing chanel 2.55 in a gorgeous shade of blue... Lily is one of the few celebs out there who looks like a regular person when she's out and about. She looks comfortable and happy (not in this picture, i mean generally) and not seeking extra publicity or style fame through paparazzi shots of a particularly good outfit. She's going out to lunch. And i commend that!

Anne Hathaway

Oh Anne. So beautiful, but sometimes so clueless as to what to wear. And a little to thin. But now she's gone back to a healthy weight and listened to someone's advice about style, she's turning up to events looking polished head to toe. She's the modern day equivalent of Gwyneth Paltrow, radiantly beautiful, talented, eloquent and witty, and in terms of style: when's she's right she's oh so right, but when she's wrong she's horrid. This dress, however, is perfect in every way. Perfect length, Perfect style (strapless with bouffant hem is great for her because of her old hollywood beauty) and a perfect mixture of classic silhouette with fancy design quirks (if you click on the image you'll see the skirt is adorned with netting flounces and feather-esque embellishments). The red shoes are vampish and sexy, her hair and make up denotes the whole 'old-school' vibe she was going for, and all in all she looks great. If a little older than her 25 years, then so be it, but there's nothing wrong with dressing chicly. Class act!

Alexa Chung

A late entry, but no less amazing, is my girl Alexa Chung. I was bemoaning the fact that i would be making a 'you look lovely today' post without including alexa, she's always my fallback girl for great red carpet outfits, even if they do look candid most of the time (would it KILL her to just put on a nice ballgown once or twice in her life?). And here she nails it again, those gorgeous long legs with mary janes, a lace mini dress poking out from underneath a classic trench coat. I also like the length of her hair now, i hate it as a bob, but it seems to have grown a bit and now is getting back to a messy shoulder length level that i adore.   She also has a chanel 2.55 on her arm. Well, that seals the deal. She does look lovely.
