This year marks the 15th Anniversary of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week (only 10 years shy of London's big quarter century), and they are celebrating with all sorts of big measures, like the Frock Stars exhibition of last post. International Media delegates are flocking to Sydney for the shows - buyers from Net-A-Porter and Shopbop as well as Bloggers Susie Bubble or Style Bubble and Tommy Ton of Jak and Jil. There are even hints that Yasmin Sewell will be stopping into town to check out the emerging talent for Liberty. Michelle Jank is back to style the Carla Zampatti show. It's all systems go!
Among this media frenzy was the news that famed french Street-style photographer and illustrator Garance Dore would be touching down in Sydney. Why? RAFW? Oh no, Instead she's coming to open her illustration installation at Westfield Bondi Junction and Doncaster entitled 'Winter with Westfield'. She's bringing her boyfriend Scott Schuman of the Sartorialist and although there is talk that they will be staying on for the shows, their trip is primarily about this exhibition.
What is it? A set of 7 illustrations by Dore herself of 7 different Autralian designers (Arthur Galan, Gorman, Country Road, Zimmerman, Bettina Liano, Leona Edminston & Thurley) to commemorate the uniqueness of Australian style and seasons. Entitled 'Winter with Westfield' by Garance Dore, the exhibition renders the traditional Zimmerman or Gorman silhouettes with Dore's whimsical and indelibly hip touch to create a view of Australian fashion that is singularly chic.
I have been lucky enough to be invited to the launch next week, and I am incredibly excited and humbled. I can't believe it! As you may have noticed due to the proliferation of her photos illustrating my posts, I am a bit of a Garance Dore fan. I can't wait! (but what, oh what, shall i wear?)
The exhibition stars on Wednesday April 28th in Westfield Bondi Junction, and Thursday April 29th in Westfield Doncaster (VIC).
