Feathers always waft in and out on the trend breeze, but for me they are always in style. At the moment, and thanks to a sort of bohemian-luxe vibe we can see quite heavily at a lot of runways, heralded through the sumptuous and understated luxury show that was Fall 08 Lanvin, feathers are making a comeback with a vengeance. There are sort of 2 ways to go in fashion now, spacey, heavy, futuristic and avant garde or classic, rich, beautiful, elegant... 3 guesses which aesthetic feathers fit best into.
Burberry Prorsum, Ralph Lauren, Catherine Malandrino, Andrew Gn... They have all used feathers on skirts, dresses, jackets/coats and tops. Designers are getting into this luxe embellishment big time, it makes you feel like you're wearing couture, really.
The best way to wear feathers, i think, is to pair our feathered garment/embellishment with something plainer. This is, of course, common sense, but you can also pair feathers with opposite or paradoxical textures to create some really nice sillhouettes. A leather skirt with a feather embelished top, for example, or a feathered skirt with a plain grey tee shirt and a leather jacket would also look nice. Mixing leather and feathers is tops in my book.
