Ah i'm in the christmas spirit. I went and saw the david jones windows last night with my brothers and sisters, and had hot chocolate with cinnamon when i came back. And now i just want to sway in my room to my favourite christmas carols. I wrote songs, and then changed it. because there is no such thing as a christmas song, only christmas carols. So instead of poetry posts, i'm going to do christmas carol posts. I mean, song lyrics are a form of poetry, are they not?
This is one of my absolute favourites:
Ding dong merrily on high,
In heav'n the bells are ringing:
Ding dong! verily the sky
Is riv'n with angel singing.
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!
E'en so here below, below,
Let steeple bells be swungen,
And "Io, io, io!"

There's this scene in Little Women the movie where the girls gather around the piano and sing to this song while Marmee lights their candles that they take with them to their rooms. They had those adorable little candleholders that you put your fingers through. They would march up their stairs swinging the candleholders as they went, full of youthful exuberance. I harboured this not so secret childhood ambition to do that one day. And there was this year when we did christmas in july at our friend's house in the mountains, and it didn't snow (i've never seen it!) but it was very cold, and i lit one of their finger/candleholders and sung the carol as i strode purposefully up the stairs.
It's just a wonderful, exciting, joyful carol.
