there's something very comforting about early morning tv. unlike midday tv, whose purpose is to console (think oprah and dr phil), afternoon tv, whose purpose is to amuse, evening tv, whose purpose is to entertain and thrill, and late night tv whose purpose is to, well... you know. Early morning tv is there purely and simply to comfort. Think about it, you wake up early, you've probably got work in about an hour, (or indeed, school/uni), you're tired and cranky and feeling wretched. You switch on the tv to while away some time before you have to shower and get dressed, and on comes something in warm colours, filled with aesthetically pleasing presenters talking amiably and smartly, but not too intelligent mind, you don't want to have to think at half 7 in the morning, about topics that are neither boring nor too stressful. Early morning tv is there to wake you up, easing you into the routine of the day, and make you forget that you would rather be snuggled up in your bed.
This is one of the reasons why i love seeing the outfits that Alexa wears on the tv show 'freshly squeezed', a music video show early in the morning catering to the pre-school/uni audience, one presumes. It ticks many of the boxes of morning tv, from what i've seen of youtube clips, the presenters are pretty and unassuming, the dialogue is mildly humorous and the topics are pop culture and music, none of which could offend or anger you, a dangerous thing so early in the morning. And the stylist on the show has impeccable taste.
Alexa is always dressed in the most beautiful of clothes, slight variations on her own personal style so as to create the semblance of authenticity to her and nick grimshaw's friendly banter. You feel as if you are just watching a conversation between them, albeit one that allows them to show music clips and interviews with the artists... whatever. you get my point. Alexa wears lots of little dresses with boots/masculine shoes like loafers, mini skirts and tee shirts, loads of necklaces and rings, stripes, long scarves and beanies in winter, blazers and chunky cardigans, and a polite smattering of designer clothing here and there, mostly luella and see by chloe, although her shoes bely a bit more expensive tastes (those chanel flats and marni platforms).
Anyway, because it's saturday, and i'm tired, and after my night last night all i want to do is watch crappy early morning tv while nursing a cup of tea and turkish bread toast with cherry jam (mmmm) i'm going to post you some of alexa's great 'freshly squeezed' outfits in the hope that they will serve the purpose of an early morning show.
After all, nothing is as comforting and soothing as a good outfit.
