you look lovely today... just today?

what a disappointing celebrity week! i've been trawling through archives of celebrity photos for work (they looove the get the look/best dressed spreads) and it's been pretty uninspiring. Even with the teen choice awards this week it's all been pretty sparse. Where are you, well-dressed starlets? Strap on your balenciagas and/or yves saint laurent shoes and hit the town, please. I don't care if it's a boutique opening or just a regular club night, get out there, do your thing for the cameras, and help a brother out!

Isn't she a doll? She was the only one at the teen choice awards who didn't make me want to throw up, everyone either looked way too casual (miley and her denim cut offs? please) or just, well, tarty (i do love her, but subtlety has never been her strong point...). Selena, on the other hand, a vision in lilac, all breezy goddess beautiful in a drapey asymmetrical dress tied in at the waist and a pair of silver pointy shoes, not my thing, but they looked good, and that's all that matters. Miss Gomez is a new addition to the 'you look lovely today club', i'll admit, i don't even subscribe to her thread on tfs, but i did like her teen vogue cover and princess protection program was a little guilty pleasure over the holiday break. I smell a blooming style star in the making!

Lily Allen

I love this new Lily Allen. Sure, the panda-eye glitter make up is a little too much for some, but who cares about a spot of glitter when Lily is out and about dressed like this! I'm sure everyone can recall those days that to get Lily out of pyjama pants and ugg boots and/or no bra, and yet here the beautiful butterfly emerges! she's been on a sartorial roll for some time now, moving from polished strength to chic strength. In this look she's simple and sleek, with that LBD that actually fit rather well, the picture is making it look a little frumpy, black pumps and a clutch bag. What makes it all so great is the mixture of the sleek black with that orange jacket, a beautiful valencia orange shade, with interesting design quirk - a kink in the lapel. It reminds me of my mad cortes overshirt, and is just the kind of whimsical touch that we come to love from Lily. She may not be porting the prom dresses and sneakers anymore, but she still wants to have fun with fashion, and that's what we love about her.

There's nothing i love more than a good dose of sea green. It is my favourite colour after all, that pastel-y goodness merging ever so slightly into real shades... *sigh* it's so evocative of the sea, but not in a beachy way, but in a oceans crashing against rock formations way. I love this dress Alice is wearing, i love the leather jacket that she's toughened the look up with, and i love the diamonds at her neck. All class! Now if only she can translate this chic-ness into a modelling comeback, i've missed her on the runways!
