edie sedgwick and her famous chandelier earrings
earrings, the wackier the better, have made a splash on catwalks this season. i love earrings, and i love big earrings, because i always wear my hair down (it's only a bob after all) and so a big earring is the only thing that will be seen. Small earrings are lost within the depths of my hair/forest. I particularly like the styles that edie sedgwick wears, i have a pair of fan-style earrings that are just like hers and look really good swinging out from underneath my hair. Earrings have that great power of transforming an outfit, they can complete it, they can change it, they can add to it. Earrings can be fun, in bold colours and youthful materials, they can also make you look older with pearls, classic design in stud or sleepers. They something about your personality too, the kinds of things you like, what you think about yourself....
Last season McQueen heralded the trend with his maharajah theatrical feast of a FW08 collection which showed great big red and gold chandelier earrings. Costume jewellery then began making a comeback, seen on the catwalks of chanel and dior. Now designers are going in various directions. At Prada there were chic designs with pearls and precious stones which went with the overall aesthetic of the collection as ladylike seductress/femme fatale. Marni showed beautifully put together pieces that looked like ribbons with diamontes and perspex mixed in, sticking to the distinctly marni look of old meets new meets crazy meets subdued. Louis Vuitton went all out crazy with spiralling circular hoop designs. Jil Sander was very futuristic, with pins that went through the piercing, often with the decoration (stone, ball) behind the ear and clasp in front.
as i have said about 100000 times now, I love earrings, so i'm very excited about this trend. I know some people are iffy about them, but for me, it's a no fuss way to jazz up any oufit. Recently i haven't been wearing them much at all, but this has inspired me to go out and get some brand new earrings, the bigger the better, and instantly take my out fit from here to there. !

I was recently tagged by emily from all things british to list 6 things that make me happy. well, here goes;
1. the smell of new books, and the feel of their paper in your fingers when you turn a page. i know, weird. but i'm a hopeless nerd.
2. buying obscene amounts of magazines and then cutting them up for my inspiration book.
3. writing and scribbling away in my notebook... i don't know what it is, it just... puts a smile on my face!
4. sitting curled up with a cup of tea in my friend's library in the mountains (yes she has a library) and reading all day long.
5. the feel of sandwashed silk under your fingers, smooth but so matte at the same time.
6. the taste of raspberries, french cheese (fromage d'affinois is my fav!) and sourdough bread. not at the same time, but for desert together. it's like creamy, tangy, sour, all at the same time. they all compliment each other so well!
