I don't wear much sheer, but there is one sheer overshirt i have that i wear religiously. I goes over a little slip and tucked into a high waisted skirt which adds something extra to an otherwise very boring outfit. I overwear it a bit actually, but that's because it is sheer with a pattern which means it is doubly intriguing. People love that shirt. I would like to get a sheer skirt, king of like the chanel one (see below) which Alexa Chung wore in Vogue Uk. I can't find my scan of that, which is just great, she wears the ballerina length sheer skirt (covering up those legs of hers must have been difficult) with a vinage rock tee shirt and a chanel jacket. A perfect mix of old, new, crazy, demure, and the perfect way to wear sheer.
Sheer is abounds on the runways at the moment. Pilati's YSL collection for YSL was like a love letter to sheer. Charles Anastase made sheer look sexy but silly at the same time. On the milan catwalks Milan and Fendi both used sheer in weird ways, Marni as an overskirt, Fendi as an underskirt. Givenchy had sheer panels, Luella had sheer strips, Vena Cava and Erdem both used sheer shirts. All the designers love it! This could be because sheer is an instant crowd, editorial and catwalk pleaser; editors, buyers, it girls and models love it alike. It could also be the transformative powers of sheer, taking an ordinary outfit to an extraordinary level. Whatever the reason, sheer is certainly lovely to look at. And isn't that what fashion is all about?
Yves Saint Laurent, Spring/Summer 09; sheer panels
Yves Saint Laurent, Spring/Summer 09; fresh take on the classic white shirt in sheer.
Marc Jacobs resort 09; one of my favourite dresses of all time. Reminiscent of YSL, but also Japanese chic. I love the sheer overshirt of the dress with little sheer bows all over it.
Marni Spring/Summer 09; I was so confused when i first saw this as to wear exactly the sheer fits into all this. Is it an overskirt? But it is also attached to some collar thing coming out over the bodice? And it's in green! Whatever it is, i think it is typical marni, quirky cool.
Vena Cava Spring/Summer 09
Luella Spring/Summer 09
Erdem Spring/Summer 09
Fendi Spring/Summer 09; King Karl is a big fan of the sheer (see chanel below). I like this sheer dress, and others in the collection showed dresses with sheer underskirts peeking out. V. cute!
Givenchy Spring/Summer 09; sheer panels.
House of Holland Spring/Summer 09; who could forget this dress that aggy memorably wore to the after party? saving the model (and our) modesty with some strategically placed panels this dress is only for the very (VERY VERY) brave.
Lanvin Autumn/Winter 08
Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 08
Balenciaga Resort 09; the sheer panel on this dress is really interesting. I love that the sheer fabric crinkles a bit while the fabric around it is quite stiff and unmoving.
Balmain Autumn/Winter 08; sheer on sheer means that it goes opaque.. But when you move you might get a glimpse of leg!
Chanel Pre-fall 08; beautiful sheer mini dress
Chanel Spring/Summer 08; the beautiful skirt of my dreams. I love the length, i love the sheer, i even love the little hot pants peeking out from underneath. lovely!
And last, but not least, the king of sheer himself, Charles Anastase Spring/Summer 09. This is just one example from his collection; it was really full of sheer. Beautiful colours and styles too! (and sheer stay ups as well, the man is very dedicated to the cause).
