alice malice?

I was away all week and missed the one week that really counts for me, paris fashion week. And now I have the dreadful task of trying to catch up with all the shows. From what I 've seen, and it has been very little let me assure you, Yves Saint Laurent was streamlined beautiful, louis vuitton was so frenchy (so chic), Dior was a big D for disappointment, lanvin was, as always, covetous and sonia rykiel looked like a blast.

I will do runway reviews soon, but for now I want to write about something a little upsetting. I really like Alice Burdeu. She's kind of big in Australia because she won Australia's next top model, and she's a very different kind of winner to the ones that had come before her (in both the AUS, and the US franchise). She was a pale, willowy, very skinny thing who had a knowledge of high fashion and an innate sense of style. I liked her from the beginning, and i even (cringe) voted for her as part of the interactive thing. Yes, Alice Burdeu moved me to pick up by mobile and register a vote in her name. It was all very shameful, but ultimately, i like her.

In the autumn/winter 08 shows she booked up a storm. She was walking for lots of people who mattered, i won't say everyone (because that wasn't true), but she was walking for bigs, like Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Alexander Mcqueen, Lanvin and Dolce and Gabbana. And then Spring/Summer 09 rolls along and i expected her to do the same, if not better. But it was all a bit disappointing. She didn't book Proenza, or Mcqueen, or Lanvin, or even D&G (who she did an ad campaign for shot by testino)... She wasn't not working, not by any stretch of the imagination, but she was doing lots of small name shows, and none of the big name glitz and glamour that characterised her opening season.

She was even a no show in milan, which was all very odd. People were saying that she was there, but she didn't book anything, that she was there for a photography exclusive, that she was shooting for a mag or ad campaign... The list goes on. People even said that she didn't have the right colouring for spring, what with her pale skin and vibrant red hair.

So what actually happened? Did something go wrong? Was her walk not up to scratch (unlikely, she has a good walk). Hair?? she recently got this front fringe which i'm indifferent on, but apparently it is a major sticking point with some designers. Was it actually her colouring (i hope not, i should think that designers would want to reinforce different skin types, and celebrate in beautiful alabaster tones). Some are saying that she's put on some weight on her legs, perhaps this put some designers off. I hope that it is none of these things, and i hope that the fashion industry is not so fickle so as to turn away a great model because of some extra weight on the hips. But then again, it is the fashion industry...

Of course, i should know not to listen to hearsay and just wait to find out what is actually happening. Chances are a mag is going to come out with a lovely alice ed, like her one with coco rocha (!!!) in numero tokyo, and all will be revealed. But for now, and before i go off to scour the web for news, i will just wonder whatever happened to alice this season, and hopefully next one she will be on her game once again, leaving behind this alice malice. (hehe, a little rhyme to end this post!!)

looking irina l esque at chapurin

colette dinnigan, made me feel very patriotic. And skye stracke turned up too apparently which just makes me feel like eating a meat pie and watching neighbours whilst waving an australian flag.

Ann demeulemeester. was so glad alice booked this again, she did her last season and was lovely.

vanessa bruno, one of my fav mid-range designers (Along with luella).
