Congratulations to Phoebe Philo, she of the flared trews and plain white shirts, who has just been awarded the Designer of the Year award at the British Fashion Awards. As the Creative Director of Celine it is safe to say that Phoebe (yes, we are on first name terms) has defined the way women dress this past year. Sure, minimalism isn't for everyone. But the idea of it is. Take care with your clothes, look after them, enjoy them, love them, live them. The trademark Celine utilitarian look has been seen on everyone from Garance Dore to Anna Della Russo to Ludivine Poiblanc to Bonnie Wright. If her winning the award means anything, then I think it means that this minimalism "thing" is here to stay. Just enough of a good thing, the knowledge of when to put on the brakes, minimalism sounds like your nagging mother but looks like your mischievous big sister and feels just like you. Trust me, you don't have to wear all grey and black to be minimal. Just tone it down a bit. You'll see.
It's award winning, after all.
