the art of giving: part two

Talisa and I have scarily similar taste - seen through our shared love of bloodorange, Benah, Acne and all things Isabel (among other things). So it's only natural that we collaborated on a gift guide for Christmas, featuring all the things we would both love to be wrapped up and presented to us, or from us, on Christmas day. She's already got the first installment up on her blog, 'Luxury'. Here's the second. Jewellery. And stay tuned for the next two!

Thin and dainty and fine as a morning in February, the only jewellery you should be giving (and receiving, of course) this Christmas should be delicate. Like a PetiteGrand bracelet from Mychameleon, twin hearts melded together to show your sister, in silver chain and clasp form, that you really do love her, or to say thank you to your best friend for all the late nights this year – and all the ones still to come – or for yourself from a lover to say here is mine, and yours, together.

Help a forgetful friend by gifting her a Memory ring from Catbird, Brooklyn. Slotted gently onto the first knuckle an index or middle finger, it’s top-hand presence will always remind her of you, and Christmas.  A star ring from Catbird is perfect for the supernovas in your life – like the girl who always answers your calls or the one who buys you a flat white when you’re really skint. A little gift for a big person.

If you’re gifting a Satomi Kawakita Black Diamond ring and matching studs you must surely have a heart of gold. These are, actually, the kinds of things you will want for your own jewellery box, the kinds of things that will make your heart soar if they magically find their way under you tree come Christmas morn’. A tiny hint of a diamond set perfectly in an endless circle of flaxen-hued gold. What’s that saying again? Always give presents you’d like to receive yourself? We think anything from Satomi Kawakita fits firmly into this category.

There is nothing that says, ‘merry Christmas, I love you’, quite like something handmade. Each BRVTVS piece is made to order, each link on a dainty golden chain hammered to perfection in a Chelsea studio before being sent out to you via priority post and all that entails. Opening this present will prove your love, because even if you didn’t make that Servilia necklace, all curved pipe-pendant and thin-as-a-dandelion chain, yourself, someone else did, and that’s what matters.
