If I ever make it to Italy in summertime for my "room with a view" getaway I will stay at the Palazzo Margherita in suite number 4. Inspired by Sofia Coppola (daughter of the hotel's owner, Francis Ford Coppola), interior designer Jacques Grange filled it with the kinds of things that make a girl who grew up on Lost in Translation and Somewhere swoon. Freestanding bath tubs, hand-painted frescos, an art deco headboard and a summer vacation colour palette; all strawberry pink and navy blue. I've always loved hotels but this one takes the cake. Exactly the kind of room that you dream about as a teenager, with a bed big enough to stretch out in length-ways, while still surrounded by a breakfast table groaning with room-service ice cream and mashed potato (do people order anything other than that off room service menus, I ask you?). Exactly the kind of room where you feel as comfortable as you do at home, yet more at peace than you do at home, which is the point of a hotel room, is it not? The kind of place that you never want to leave. A place where they carry the bags and open the doors, a place where you can step out onto your own Juliette balcony and wave to the world, a place where, on the side of the everlasting why, there is a yes, and a yes, and a yes!
