Secret Squirrel has been re-christened Secret South, and they're all grown up. The girl that comes back to school after summer with a swing in her step, her hands on her hips. She cuffs her trousers and rolls up her sleeves. She carries her bag hanging off one shoulder - or better yet, not at all. She's got french books stuffed in her locker and she smells like lemon and water. She likes things with a drawstring tie. She isn't afraid of a little bit of print. Her skin is golden and her hair is long. Sometimes she bites her nails. She hangs her laundry up to dry in the window of her bedroom. She's wearing lipstick when the other girls are wearing gloss. She's young as morning and fresh as dew. Everybody likes her and so do you.
Maya Angelou always says it best. Secret South's youthful elegance is perfect for the now. The kind of summer that will be lost amidst an endless rotation of silk slip dresses, long-line blazers and leather sandals. Unsurprisingly, both me and Talisa have the same favourite piece (great minds, and all that!). The washed-out, sandy hewn kilim-inspired print by Elke Kramer is great on square scarves and little singlets, but I like it best on the clutch bag. Just the right amount of print for someone who normally sticks to a neutral comfort zone.
