How clever am I? this title ties together both these alexa outfits in a way that's more than just 'oh, look how AMAZING alexa is, i'm obsessed with her, etc etc.' It's a lyric from Blood Bank by Bon Iver, most underrated artist of 2009, and the perfect study soundtrack. But enough of that, onto the Alexa Chung picspam.
Well, the 'i met you' part of the title obviously refers to the met ball which kicked off on monday. Tommy Ton from Jak and Jil was invited and that is why his arrival at RAFW was delayed until today. Oh, to be invited! Attending the Met Ball is one of my '30 things to do before you die', along with attending the oscars (on the arm of your incredibly gorgeous nominated actor boyfriend, natch). Alexa hit the red carpet in a 3.1 Philip Lim pantsuit in her usual manner of 'cooler than thou' and looked absolutely 'cooler than thou'. In classic Alexa style it's all about the accesories - studded clutches, patent bow shoes, a tuxedo jacket swinging from her shoulders like a cape and plummy lipstick. It isn't particularly original (remember Rihanna's pantsuit last year) but it is nice, and it is very Alexa, and it fits the theme 'American Woman' better than a lot of the other outfits trotted out by starlets (Carey, i'm looking at you). Because if there's a pantsuit to be worn, you can bet an American woman will be in it.
Hmm. Now we get to the 'blood bank' part. Well this may seem like a stretch, but here is Alexa at the Art of Elysium Gala in Christopher Kane for Versus Versace. It's a little red number, 'blood' red, even, perhaps? huh, you know what I mean. Christopher Kane is doing amazing work right now, not the least for Versus, for whom he is taking his usual style of short and sexy even shorter and sexier. One of my favourite things about his collection for the label is his obvious love of Versace and the Versace archives - yes those are little safety pins holding up her dress. Remind you of anything?
