If I was to have been in New York for fashion's night out I would have made a beeline for Alexa's in-store appearance at Madewell. Forget MK and A at Barneys judging karaoke, who cares about tom ford wrapping gifts at bergdorfs and tavi signing totes at saks. Why bother going uptown for a poker tournament at Valentino or bingo with jessica zshor? Who needs to down champagne with Catherine Zeta Jones and Sarah Jessica Parker at Oscar de la Renta. All a girl needs, really, is a nice celebrity collaboration and a healthy dose of Alexa. In store to promote her line with the American chain Alexa promised to take fan photos, sign bags and with every purchase - a ribbon with one of Alexa's favourite quotes handwritten along the technicolour gros-grain. Does it all sound a little bit gimmicky? Well, the answer is yes. But it's Alexa, and we don't really mind.
It is comforting to discover that you're not the only one who (would have) made Alexa the first stop on their FNO list. It's even more comforting - and a little charming, actually - to see two of your biggest style icons and girl crushes collide at a fashion intersection. Taylor Tomasi-Hill, she of the crimson hair and killer accessories, went straight to madewell to buy the 'bat' tee shirt from Alexa's collection. After a day of slowly losing my voice and feeling more and more poorly as the hours rolled on this is a photo that made me smile, no, grin. I love Taylor, Taylor loves Alexa, I also love Alexa. What a lovely little round-a-bout venn diagram this is.
