Thanks to the amazing people at Redken and NAC Sara and I ended up in some fantastic seats at Gary Bigeni. Right in front of the catwalk entrance, in fact. We missed the first look because sneaky Gary sent his models out what we thought was the exit, and while we were all looking the other way a flash of gorgeous, rich blue shot past. After that we were prepared, snapping away as the models strode out in classic Gary Bigeni designs - think sleek maxi dresses, formfitting leather skirts and slinky silk jersey tops (no wonder the show was sponsored by spanx). Gary Bigeni is one of my favourite designers - Australian and international. In my opinion he really stands alone on both stages - there is no-one whose clothes are quite like his, and even though they aren't Dion-Lee-conceptual they are original. He is so underrated, and his clothes are so fantastic; flattering cuts, elegant and sophisticated draping and colours to make your heart soar. The Gary pieces that I own are staples in my wardrobes that go with everything. They are equal parts cool, equal parts chic. This collection is no different. The palette migrated between rusty browns and ochre, earthy oranges and bright pops of blue - one of the new trend colour combinations and a nice upgrade of his winter collection in a darker royal blue. Stand out pieces included the stripey tops and maxis - the first time Gary has done a stripe - and the silk jersey stam skirt with leather panelling on the top, sure to become the skirt of next season. I like how his clothes are so Australian, not just in that sand-and-surf colourway, but in the designs that are so laidback, so easy to wear. Nothing too complicated, just simple, beautiful clothes.

When Sara and I first saw the models leave we thought, dammit, the photos are going to be terrible. But actually about halfway through the show we discovered that shooting the backs of the looks as they walked into this blinding, all encompassing light was actually rather lovely. You can't see much of the clothes, and stay tuned for Sara to post much better pictures than this, but I kind of like mine. I'm so glad to have seen a Gary Bigeni show, and cannot wait for it all to roll into bloodorange and the corner shop. Definitely my uniform for next season.
