day four

My last day at RAFW was determined to go with a bang. The morning was all about Yeojin Bae - a stunning debut show for an established designer who makes beautiful clothes. Her grasp of colour and her ability to capture prettiness perfectly makes her clothes a must have for bright young things. I sat front row and soaked it all up - Stella McCartney-esque midi skirts with thigh high splits, open blouses with technicolour bra-lets peeking out and little party frocks with a line skirts. At the end of the show Yeojin's parents sitting opposite me burst into elated tears, definitely the moment of the whole week for me. After that I had a great lunch with Talisa and then wandered through paddington, dissecting the show and sharing ideas. I collapsed in bed for a quick nap before heading back to the OPT for Alistair Trung and Josh Goot. You can always tell when a designer is in tune with the international fashion set. This is not to say that they will directly copy ideas or looks, but rather that their collections are influenced and interpreted by the world stage. This could clearly be seen at Trung, where the beautiful draping, utilitarian over-sized collars and trailing liquid hems recalled Haider Ackerman. It's even better when a designer is truly one of a kind. Josh Goot closed the week for me with a fantastic collection that really showed his evolution as a designer. Trademark prints were digitalised in paint splatters and brush marks and the tulip shape that he first used last season featured heavily. Yet the collection as a whole felt fresh and new - oversized tee shirt dresses that would look amazing belted with sandals, some fantastic sculptural box pleating and longer more flattering midi lengths brought this collection to a new level. It is often said that Josh and Dion Lee are direct competitors, but I think this collection shows that Josh is moving in a new direction and with a different customer base. These looks were conceptual but in a way that was very real. What I love about Josh Goot is that you can tell that he designs from a sydney base - his clothes work just as easily on the runway as they do sitting down for brunch at a cafe. And trust me, these looks will work in real life. If only we had the money to buy them all, right? And now, sleep. I've had an amazing week, met so many people and done so many things I never thought I would do. If only there were more than 24 hours in an RAFW day.

no camera means just iphone pics.. sorry!

one. the hair at yeojin bae was my favourite of the whole week. Redken hairdressers made loose braids at the top and then cinched them in tight at the bottom. Super sleek yet still cool.
two. Julia Nobis closes Yeojin Bae in a glorious red frock with thigh high splits.
three. An amazing show at City Ford ends with Josh Goot posing alongside models in the artificial light. The paint-splatter midi dress Rachel Rutt is wearing second from the right is beautiful - I really really want it!
