I have always loved Clare Press's designs at Mrs Press because of their fun and flirty take on vintage fashion. There are no uptight, laced up looks, but rather a modern gal's way of wearing history: very much tongue in chic and totally cute. Her collection today was no different, this time migrating a little from her usual parisienne lace and cashmere look to the realms of bright, colourful copa cabana - complete with fruit basket fascinators and giant sunhats. From the be-ribboned raffia espadrilles and to the full skirts and bobble necklaces in an array of rich colours, the Mrs Press girl was ready to have fun. And how could you not, in sundresses with sequin pailette bodices or cropped tops in melon pink flashing a little bit of tanned, toned tummy. It was part relaxing on the beach, cocktail in hand, part samba-ing the night away in pineapple print frocks. It was sunny and unassuming and bright, but most all, very, very fun.
Who could not be cheered by clothes that were filled with such good humour? It's certainly evident that colour is going to be the trend of the season, but Mrs Press did it in a way that was fresh and new. This was colour - vintage style. Neon brights were eschewed for pigment-rich colours of sand, surf and sky, of guava and bananas more strawberries than the eye can see in various incarnations of bias cut evening gowns, wide circle skirts, little beaded boleros and silky high waisted pants. Perfect to lift the mood of the dreary weather and set the scene for RAFW next week. If it's half as fun as this, we're in for a good time.
